If you stay longer on Bali you will see that the need to have contact with your home-country decreases. For news from the West you can use television of course. For contacts with others you can visit restaurant Lumbung.In here you always find people to talk with or play cards or whatever. Also the Helpdesk can contact you with fellow-buyers. Then there is Internet of course. Cheap and fast. Internet is possible with the telephone line and with a satellite receiver. The latter is considerably faster. A telephone connection is ok but not cheap. Sms, however, is easy and cheap
